Consequences of the epidemic: there are queues of hearses at the Odessa crematorium

Up to 40 dead bodies are burned daily.

In the Odessa crematorium, the workload increased to the level of April-May last year — an average of forty cremations per day. The new wave of the coronavirus and the growing number of deaths from it affected the course of work. This was reported by the director of the Odessa crematorium, Vladimir Bukach.

According to him, before the peak, people could choose a time, most often around lunchtime, and say goodbye.

Now the crematorium workers have the whole day scheduled, and they allocate only 20 minutes for the farewell.

"We are working as usual. We were ready for this peak, so we are trying to cope. Compared to the previous peak, the difference is that now one group can say goodbye in the hall, and the other - on the street," Vladimir Bukach noted.

In addition, the number of applications from other cities has increased at the crematorium.

"Here, rather, the problem is that there are only three crematoria in Ukraine. Therefore, bodies are brought to us not only from the Odesa region," explained the director of the crematorium.

It should be noted that the Odesa region continues to be among the leaders in terms of COVID-19. In the region, about one and a half thousand patients were identified in one day. At the same time, almost fifty people died.
