Odessa cinematographers are fighting against Minister of Culture Tkachenko

"Guild of Cinematographers of Odessa" together with the public organization "My Together" held a number of protest events in Kyiv and Odessa against the current Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko.

The main claims were presented at a press conference in which filmmakers accused the minister of the actual destruction of the Odessa Film Studio. As reported by the head of the Guild of Cinematographers of Odessa, Maksym Firsenko, in 2005, Alexander Tkachenko managed to share in the state-owned enterprise "Odessa Cinema Studio", despite the fact that the collective was against the change in the form of ownership.

Since that time, the film studio has not made a single film of its own, and the territory has become completely neglected - it only works for the rental of a cyclorama or a fairground. In the summer, Tkachenko sold his fortune, but moviegoers consider this a formal deal, which the minister was forced to enter into according to the law - to avoid a conflict of interests.

Moviegoers are afraid that the final goal of these upheavals will be the "demolition" of the fabulously expensive land by the sea, on which the film studio is located, with its subsequent development.

— I received a number of official documents, we discovered numerous violations and inconsistencies in the privatization of the film studio, which Alexander Tkachenko was also involved in at that time. So, for example, the State Property Fund corresponded for several months and agreed to share 49,99% of the shares of a state-owned enterprise in a company that did not legally exist. The package of documents itself is incomplete, the documents do not withstand elementary legal criticism, but the authors of some of the signatures under the documents deny them, calling them a forgery, which is indirectly confirmed by a cursory glance at the originals. After this "action" the staff was reduced 10 times, and the film studio did not release a single film of its own. Now the new co-owners of the studio, such as the developer Andrey Vavrysh, are going to build apartments on its territory with the proviso that only moviegoers will live there. But who will believe this, when the same apartments are already standing on the territory of former sanatoriums all over Frantzuzskyi Boulevard, where the film studio is located? Yes, and where are there so many moviegoers in Odessa — they have all already gone as far as possible! And Mr. Tkachenko himself turned the sports and health center "Ukraine" on Trukhanov Island in Kyiv into a personal residence. And although no one came to us during the protests, we do not give up and see the judicial perspective of this process," said Maksym Firsenko, producer and director.

In addition, "filmmakers" were also outraged that Larisa Petasiuk became the deputy minister of culture. Since 2003, she worked in the legal department of the department and was supposed to identify abuses at film studios, and now she has been promoted.

— Such gratitude for loyalty? - Firsenko is interested.

We remind you that on June 4, 2020, people's deputies supported the appointment of people's deputy Oleksandr Tkachenko as the head of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. Tkachenko himself, as a deputy, did not vote for his appointment, stating that he "has a conflict of interests." In the end, with 299 votes of parliamentarians, Tkachenko lost his mandate as a people's deputy.
