In the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the "Servant of the People" faction prepared a bill on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the powers of the president to appoint the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
In an interview with Radio Svoboda, the president's representative in the Constitutional Court and People's Deputy Fedor Venislavskyi told about this.
"Our political force has prepared a draft law on introducing amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, where we, considering this questionable conclusion of the KSU, stipulate that the director of NABU should be appointed by the President with the consent of the Verkhovna Rada. And directly in the Constitution, we provide that candidates for the post of NABU director must be selected in a transparent competition," said Venislavskyi.
According to him, in order for this bill to be submitted for consideration, at least 150 people's deputies are needed, while about 120 signatures have been collected.
In addition, according to the previously adopted law on NABU, it was assumed that the management of the activities of the National Bureau is carried out by its director, who is appointed and dismissed by the President of Ukraine in the order determined by this law. At the same time, the provision on granting the head of state a power of attorney to appoint and dismiss the director of NABU was declared unconstitutional, according to the decision of the KSU dated September 16.
