South Africa intends to return one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the manufacturer

Clinical trials of the vaccine in South Africa have shown that it provides minor protection against mild to moderate outbreaks of Covid-19 caused by the local mutant coronavirus.

A week after the refusal of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, the authorities of the South African Republic appealed to the Serum Institute of India with a request to take back the million doses of the drug delivered in early February.

About it with reference to own sources сообщает The Economic Times.

According to sources, the request of the country's Ministry of Health is related to the fact that clinical trials of the vaccine in South Africa have shown that it provides little protection against mild and moderate cases of Covid-19 caused by the local mutant coronavirus.

A batch of a million doses of the drug arrived in South Africa a few days ago, half a million more should arrive in the coming days.

Now the authorities of the country, where there are 55 million people, are betting on the vaccination of risk groups, primarily doctors, with a drug from Johnson & Johnson.
