Facebook decided to change its name to Meta as part of its rebranding. This was announced by the founder and head of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.
According to him, the new name of the company (not social networks) better reflects what the company is doing, expanding the scope of activities from social media to such areas as virtual reality.
"I used to like classical studies, and the word Meta comes from the Greek word meaning 'after.' For me, it symbolizes the fact that you can always build something else," Zuckerberg said.
The change will not affect the name of individual platforms - social networks Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. Meta will refer only to the main company that owns these resources. Zuckerberg also presented the company's logo in the form of a blue Mobius strip.
Meanwhile, Facebook shares have already risen by 3% against the background of the company's renaming announcement.
