"Wave of the World" campaign: candles were lit in Odessa in memory of the dead children

This problem, which is often hushed up in society, does not know how to talk about it.

Today, October 15, the world celebrates the Day of Remembrance of Children Who Died Newborn and Unborn. In connection with this, for the first time in Odessa, the action "Volna sveta" was held. Women who lost their children lit candles in Shevchenko Park in memory of them.

According to the organizers of the action, this problem, which is often kept silent in society, does not know how to talk about it. Relatives do not know how to react and what to say, doctors often remain indifferent, and parents, especially the mother, live alone with grief.

One of the participants of the action is Iryna Shevchenko. During three years, the woman lost babies three times during pregnancy. At the age of 37, she managed to give birth to a boy. Now he is 3 years old.

"In 2016, I was due to give birth to a girl, and on the 36th week of a healthy pregnancy, she suddenly died and I gave birth to her already dead. An hour later, I became pregnant and she, too, could not be born already on the 22nd week. After that, I gave birth to a boy. And then the third child died on the seventh week," the woman said.

According to the organizers, the main message of the action is to let women who have lost their children know that they are not alone in their grief. And there are those who are ready to share their pain and sorrow.

Three years ago, the public organization "Guardianship of an Angel" was created for such purposes. The women created support groups based on the principle of "equal to equal", where the lectures are not conducted by psychologists, but by the same women who have experienced all stages of grief.

"Many participants have already passed through us, and, in fact, we are glad that they found us. We are always there and we can provide the necessary support," noted volunteer Tatiana Chervyak.

Almost a hundred Ukrainian women have visited support groups in the last three months alone. Now such conferences are held online due to quarantine restrictions.

"It's a pain that never really goes away. But you can grow around this pain. I lived through my pain with psychotherapists, and now there is a support group, and we meet once a month. And although a lot of time has passed, I cry at each of them," noted Iryna Shevchenko.

Similar actions were also held in Kyiv, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.
