The counteroffensive of the Armed Forces will begin in a month, as the rainy weather is currently preventing active operations. Pevkur said this in an interview with ERR after the meeting of the Ukraine Support Group at the Ramstein military base in Germany.
According to the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, the biggest obstacle to the start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive is the rainy weather, and at least a month will pass before the start of active hostilities.
"If you listen to the opinions [voiced at the] Ramstein base, it may be another month before we can talk about a real counteroffensive. If the weather changes, it may happen earlier. If not, then a month will pass, maybe two," said Pevkur.
According to him, the obstacle today is not the absence of, for example, Abrams tanks, but the weather conditions in Ukraine.
"Abrams tanks are not decisive in the spring offensive. The Leopard coalition [of countries that provided tanks to Ukraine] was strong, and quite a lot of equipment has already been transferred to Ukraine, and quite a lot is on its way there. The biggest obstacle to the counteroffensive that is likely to happen is the weather. The weather is quite rainy, which makes it difficult to move heavy equipment. Ukrainians are rather waiting for the weather to improve in order to begin a larger-scale liberation of territories," said Pevkur.
