The Chinese ambassador to France questioned the sovereignty of the post-Soviet countries

Lou Chaillet called Crimea "primarily Russian"

China's ambassador to France, Lou Chaillet, called Crimea "originally Russian" and questioned the sovereignty of post-Soviet countries.

The ambassador of the People's Republic of China said this on the air of the French TV channel LCI.

The representative of Beijing was asked whether he considers Crimea to be Ukrainian and said: “It depends on how you perceive this problem. There is a story. Crimea was originally Russian, wasn't it? It was Khrushchev who gave Crimea to Ukraine during the USSR."

Shaye also stated that the countries of the former USSR "do not have an effective status in international law, since there is no international agreement that would specify their status as sovereign countries."

In addition, answering the host's question whether Crimea belongs to Ukraine, the Chinese ambassador answered without further comment that the peninsula was "originally Russian."

The presenter asked the Chinese ambassador if he considered the device still unresolved after the collapse of the USSR. The journalist also noted that part of the territories could be taken from the PRC and called a "dispute".

Lou Chaillet ignored both theses, instead calling on the world not to quarrel over "such problems" but to cease fire on the territory of Ukraine. "There are nuances regarding their conflict, their problem. It is not so easy to express," he added.
