The US and Ukrainian militaries are looking for a new strategy that they can move to early next year. Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington at a critical moment "both on the battlefield and on Capitol Hill," the publication writes. The search for a new approach is prompted by the failure of Ukraine's months-long counteroffensive, as well as weeks of tense discussions between top American officials and their Ukrainian counterparts.
US officials say that without a change in strategy, 2024 could be like 1916. In this deadly year of World War I, thousands of soldiers died and the battle lines changed very little.
The United States is stepping up its military consultations with Ukraine. In particular, a general has been sent to Kyiv, who will spend considerable time in the field.
