Danilov made a frank statement about unjustified hopes for a counteroffensive

We were too optimistic, our hopes were not fulfilled

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov admitted that the offensive of the Defense Forces of Ukraine did not live up to expectations. The official said this in an interview Air force.

Danilov said that Ukraine's hopes for a counteroffensive did not come true, but "this does not mean that victory will not be on our side."

"In May, every citizen of our country wanted the war to end as soon as possible. There were hopes, but they did not come true. The fact that we have been defending our country for two years is already a great victory." Danilov said.

The publication notes that Ukrainian troops hoped to return part of the territory occupied by Russia, captured after a full-scale invasion, as well as to block the enemy's supply lines to Crimea. But, lacking air superiority and facing a powerful Russian defense, the efforts of Ukrainian fighters "seem to have stalled with the onset of winter." As indicated in the material, "Danilov admitted that they were too optimistic."

"People make mistakes sometimes. You can't be an excellent student all your life," - he remarked.

The Secretary of the National Security Council also said that the situation at the front is "very difficult" and that the old textbooks on war, including NATO, "should be sent back to the archives."

"There was no war like the one we have in our country - neither in the 20th nor in the 21st century," Danilov explained.

The official refused to say when there might be a new push to liberate the occupied territories of Ukraine.

"I can say for sure that we will not stop. We will continue the fight for our freedom and independence." - emphasized the secretary of the NSDC.
