The Polish Senate passed a resolution on Ukraine's accession to NATO, — Polskie Radio

Poland

The resolution was adopted unanimously

The Senate of Poland advocated the accelerated accession of Ukraine to NATO following the example of Sweden and Finland and considers the Alliance summit in Vilnius in July to be key on this path. The Senate unanimously supported the resolution on Ukraine's accession to NATO under an accelerated procedure. This is reported by "Polskie Radio".

"After a year of terrible war, we know that Ukraine, by confronting Russia, protects Europe and is a key link that protects the continent from aggression from the East," the resolution emphasized.

As stated in the text of the document, "Ukraine today has the strongest army on the continent with extraordinary combat experience. The Ukrainian army is rapidly re-arming itself with NATO equipment and using operational art and tactics that have been developed by Western allies for decades."

The resolution states that during the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine should receive "much more than in previous statements about the open door policy." The Vilnius summit should become an important stage of Ukraine's preparation for full membership, the senators emphasized.

The Senate of Poland believes that Ukraine's accession to NATO should be a political decision - as in the case of Finland and Sweden - and the result of a strategic analysis of challenges and threats beyond the Alliance's eastern border.

The Senate drew attention to the fact that the Russian Federation positions the war against Ukraine as "defense against NATO."

The resolution also states that if Russia defeats Ukraine, it will not stop at its western border. "The Alliance identified this threat during last year's NATO summit in Madrid. Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia correctly assessed the Russian threat. Most European capitals are only now agreeing with us," the resolution reads.

The senators supported the demands of the countries bordering the Russian Federation regarding reliable security guarantees for Ukraine. They called for determining the path to our country's membership in NATO in parallel with the strengthening of political ties between the bloc and Kyiv.

It also states that Finland and Sweden were "invited to join NATO in a procedure that has never been used before."

"And although Sweden still remains outside the pact's structures, the allies have decided that they will protect it. The Senate of the Republic of Poland calls on NATO member states to apply a similar emergency procedure to Ukraine," the adopted resolution says.
