Today, January 31, the International Court of Justice of the United Nations (UN) recognized Russia's violation of certain parts of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Financing of Terrorism. The international court stated that the Russian Federation, in particular, did not conduct an investigation into the financial support of illegal armed groups in the territory of certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in Ukraine in 2014.
At the same time, the decision read by the head of the court, Joan Donohue, did not indicate the appointment of compensation, which was the subject of the demands of the Ukrainian side in the lawsuit.
In addition, the court in The Hague did not make a specific decision regarding the probable responsibility of the Russian Federation for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over the occupied part of the Donetsk region on July 17, 2014.
Thus, the UN court today confirmed a smaller part of the accusations by the Ukrainian side against Russia in the case of financing terrorism.
