CIA director: Russia has already lost the war on many levels

Burns

Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, explained that it is strategically important for the United States to continue supporting Ukraine in the face of a further full-scale invasion by Russia. This is stated in the article for the magazine Foreign Affairs.

According to the head of the CIA, Russia has already lost the war on many levels, having lost at least 315 Russian soldiers and two-thirds of its pre-war tank fleet, as well as not getting closer to the strategic goal of capturing Kyiv and conquering Ukraine.

He also believes that the invasion undermined Putin's power, as evidenced by the June 2023 mutiny of Wagner PMK leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. At the same time, he is determined to prolong the war, hoping that time is on his side.

"The key to success is to maintain Western aid to Ukraine. Less than five percent of the U.S. defense budget is a modest investment compared to the significant geopolitical payoff for the United States and the notable returns for American industry." - writes Burns.

He emphasizes that further assistance to Kyiv with weapons will provide it with a "stronger position" in the event of possible negotiations, and will also give a chance to ensure a long-term win for Ukraine and a strategic loss for Russia.

"For the United States to withdraw from the conflict at this crucial moment and stop supporting Ukraine would be an own goal of historic proportions." - sums up the head of the CIA.
