Criminals offered citizens to make an advance payment for the provision of employment services abroad. In this way, they defrauded more than 180 people. Currently, the persons involved have been notified of the suspicion, note in the department.
The fraudulent scheme was stopped by the operatives of the Cybercrime Countermeasures Department in the city of Kyiv together with the investigators of the Holosiiv police department of the regional headquarters under the procedural guidance of the Holosiiv District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Kyiv.
In May of this year, law enforcement officers exposed a 26-year-old man from Kyiv who organized a criminal scheme and involved his acquaintances in illegal activities. The intruder was informed of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense.
The enterprising man carefully thought out the details of committing the crimes and divided the responsibilities between accomplices. At his direction, the defendants created three fictitious companies to provide allegedly legal services for employment abroad. Scammers also advertised their "services" on the Internet. Communication was carried out in the format of a call center. The main condition was prepayment. After receiving money to controlled accounts, the fraudsters "disappeared".
It was established that during almost two years of criminal activity, members of the group defrauded more than 180 citizens for more than UAH 2 million.
During painstaking work and analysis of information obtained during the investigation, the police identified three more criminals. Law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches. Computer equipment, mobile phones, data drives, bank cards, documents, cash, etc. were seized.
Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Article 3, 4 Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The extras were informed about the suspicion of committing criminal offenses. The sanction of the article provides up to eight years of imprisonment. The issue of selecting them as preventive measures in the form of detention is being resolved.
Investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices.
