Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a speech in parliament, refused to call Hamas a terrorist organization. According to him, the Palestinian movement is a liberation group that defends its land. He announced this during a speech before his party, the Nurriyet.
According to him, Western countries consider Hamas a terrorist organization, and the West "owes a lot to Israel, but Turkey does not owe it anything."
"Hamas is not a terrorist organization, but a liberation group of Mujahideen, which is trying its best to protect its land. Israel is killing children," Erdogan said.
Erdogan also abandoned his plans to visit Israel. He criticized Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, noting that Ankara "will not allow the killing of children in Gaza." All future visits by Turkish officials to the Middle Eastern country were also cancelled.
"We had a project to go to Israel, but we canceled it. They abused our goodwill. The perpetrators of the massacre in the Gaza Strip are those who provide unlimited support to Israel," the Turkish leader said.
The politician called on the parties to cease fire and create a humanitarian corridor. He noted that Turkey is ready "to be a guarantor of the Palestinian side with its political and military presence."
