The deputy project "Web" as a response to Russian missiles

APU

In order to monitor the movement of Russian missiles and drones that occasionally fly into the territory of Poland, a special automated system for processing data from observers will be created. Observers will sit on high towers, which were previously set up by forestry companies throughout the country. In addition, they can use mobile communication towers, on which video surveillance cameras will be installed. About the "Web" system, which will warn of an attack by the Russian Armed Forces, told on the Defense24 portal.

The article indicates that the Polish Seimas will soon consider a project to strengthen the country's anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense. The project is about a system with the code name "Web", within which a network of observation posts will be created. People who will be on special towers will visually detect missiles and will report this to the military.

Experts from the Defense24 portal joined the project — they were the first to talk about the details. In particular, military radars that detect air targets will be assisted by several civilian services.

One of the services that will be added to the "Web" network is forestry. Forest farms have observation and fire protection towers throughout the territory of Poland. The height of such towers is up to 35 m, the observation radius is about 10-15 km. At the same time, 40% of these buildings are automated: they have cameras and computers that can independently detect and notify about certain threats.

On the map posted on the portal, you can see the towers of forestry farms. It is also indicated which of them are automated — they were updated thanks to cooperation with the EU.

The authors of the development indicate that they plan to use the towers of mobile operators as well. People cannot be on them, but they are equipped with video cameras with motion detectors. Another possible source of information about the movement of Russian missiles or drones is cameras on railways, roads, ports and other facilities in Poland.

Civilian observers will use a special application with a simple interface. They will be on the towers and the moment they visually see the missile, they will send a minimum set of data:

  • what is the target (missile, drone, plane/helicopter);
  • in which direction it is flying (there are 12 clock-like arrows on the screen, which, with the correct position of the phone, can be used to indicate where the object is flying).

The information will enter the processing program and further the human role will be minimized, the developers of the project are sure. The program, which will be created for the broadcasting of the Armed Forces of Poland, must perform two main functions:

  • to recognize images so that, if necessary, a threatening target can be hit, for example, by missile systems;
  • for the civil defense signaling and notification system.

The article does not specify when exactly the system will work. It only says that the company that will develop the software will be chosen "this year".
