American astronomers have discovered signs of the first planet outside our galaxy. This was announced by the press service of NASA.
To date, about 5 exoplanets have been discovered - these are planets that orbit other stars. But they are all within our galaxy.
According to scientists, the discovered planet may be the size of Saturn and located in the Whirlwind galaxy (M 51). The distance to it is approximately 28 million light years.
It was discovered with the help of NASA's Chandra space X-ray observatory.
Note that today scientists have discovered many exoplanets in our galaxy. Almost all of them are located at a distance of approximately 3 thousand light-years from Earth, that is, thousands of times closer than the new candidate exoplanet.
