The virus spreads through contact, and its virulence is low.
The World Health Organization said it was convening an emergency meeting of experts to discuss the monkeypox outbreak.
According to The Daily Telegraph, more than 100 cases of the disease have been recorded at the moment. Cases of infection have been detected in at least 11 countries: USA, Canada, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Belgium.
30 people have already been infected in Spain. The case fatality rate for monkeypox ranges from 1% to 11%.
The virus is not easily transmitted from person to person, and the risk of mass infection is very low.
There is no separate vaccine against monkeypox, but, as experts write, the vaccine against natural monkeypox is also effective.
Monkey pox is a rare infectious disease most common in remote areas of Central and West Africa. Its symptoms are nausea, fever, rash, itching, and muscle pain. Cases of the disease are often associated with trips to areas that are unfavorable from the point of view of epidemiology.
