Odesa's political technological wars during COVID: an expert's comment

Ukrainian political technologist Petr Oleschuk comments.

The mass media reported that an outbreak of the coronavirus occurred in one of the city's educational institutions, the Odessa National Law Academy, and the rector of the International Humanitarian University, Konstantin Gromovenko, was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

This fact was commented on by a Ukrainian political technologist, a teacher at the Kyiv National University named after Shevchenko Petr Oleschuk.

According to his conviction, universities were not closed for quarantine solely because students make up the main electorate of Sergey Kivalov.

"By a strange combination of circumstances, both colleges belong to the "legendary" Sergey Kyvalov, an ex-deputy and now a candidate for the post of mayor of Odessa from the Maritime Party of Ukraine. And they are traditionally the main "electoral" base for Kyvalov in all elections. The mass media repeatedly wrote about the mobilization of students and teaching staff of these universities: in particular, there were many reports about the forced change of the place of registration and mandatory attendance at the sites - up to the threat of expulsion or dismissal. It would seem that the outbreak of the coronavirus can "confuse the cards". But the "sailors" do not give up. Training at the Law Academy was extended until... October 25. Although the Cabinet of Ministers ordered to let the students go home on October 15. Educational institutions continue to work, and the rector, according to the media, simply hides his illness and continues to actively participate in the preparation for the elections," he said.

"It is known that hiding the coronavirus is an action punishable by law, and the participants in the process probably know the risk they are going to take to help someone get an "entry ticket" to the Odessa City Council. It is clear that it is difficult to hide the outbreak, and the situation has already received wide resonance in the city. Therefore, it is logical to assume that the academy will still be closed for quarantine, and students and teachers will not again become appendices to bulletins.", - the expert emphasized.
