The US State Department disclosed the details of the telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, which took place on August 26. Details of the talk are published on the website of the State Department.
In addition to the standard assurances of friendship and congratulations on Independence Day, the interlocutors discussed events in Belarus, Ukraine's current efforts to combat COVID-19, as well as Crimea and Donbass issues. However, apparently, the key topic of conversation was the Motor Sych enterprise and interest in it on the part of China.
Thus, Pompeo expressed the concern of the United States "about malicious investments of the People's Republic of China in Ukraine, including Beijing's attempts to purchase the engine manufacturer Motor Sich." It is interesting that a few days after the telephone conversation, The Constitutional Court of Ukraine found the appointment of Artyom Sytnyk to the post of head of NABU to be unconstitutional. Traditionally, the State Department has always actively opposed Sytnyk's resignation, but this time there were no protests from the State Department.
