According to the newspaper, the Joseph Biden administration raised the issue in indirect talks with the Islamic regime in Qatar and Oman this year, where a prisoner exchange was discussed, as a result of which Tehran transferred four Iranian-American citizens from prison to house arrest last week. .

The U.S. wants Iran to stop supplying Russia with drones that Moscow is using in its war in Ukraine, as well as spare parts for the drones, according to an Iranian official and another person briefed on the talks.

The official clarified that Tehran, which officially denies the use of its drones in Ukraine, has repeatedly asked Moscow to stop using them in the war against Ukraine, but Washington wants "more decisive steps."

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday that the United States is pursuing a strategy of deterrence, pressure and diplomacy to ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon and to hold Tehran accountable for human rights abuses and "providing drones to Russia for use in the war against of Ukraine".

An Iranian official and another person briefed on the talks said the negotiators hoped to reach an agreement on de-escalation. For Iran, this would mean agreeing not to enrich uranium by more than 60%, improving cooperation with the IAEA and promising not to attack the Americans.
