The first racket of Ukraine, the sixth number of the world ranking according to the WTA version, Elina Svitolina from Odessa reached the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. This is reported on the website of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
In a difficult match against the representative of Greece, Maria Sakkara, the Ukrainian tennis player successfully completed the third qualifying round, and despite the fact that her opponent was considered the favorite of the meeting, Svitolina managed to win. The score of the match, which lasted 2 hours 41 minutes – 5:7; 6:3; 6:4.
"As I expected, it was a very difficult match that kept me in suspense until the end. I am glad that I was able to pull myself together and win in the second and third sets. I will recover and prepare for the quarterfinals," said Svitolina.
