At the Atlas Weekend festival, Odessa singer, Eurovision participant Melovin (Konstantyn Bocharov) came out and admitted his homosexuality. At the end of his performance, he blew a kiss to a member of his group, after which he took out a rainbow LGBT flag.
However, the singer's revelation did not pass censorship on the M1 channel - the moment with the kiss was cut from the air.
After that, Melovin talked about what happened in his social networks. He said that if the struggle for one's own rights and freedoms must be censored, then he does not want to exist in such a future of Ukraine.
"My official coming-out, which took place on stage, was cut from the live broadcast of M1. My video is still not uploaded to YouTube. And all because I showed my essence. For me, it doesn't matter color, faith, or gender, because one needs a person, body, and soul to love. And at the same time, such love is not recognized by someone, it is blocked and simply not broadcast," he writes.
In turn, representatives of the channel commented on the situation as follows:
"M1 TV channel supports all human freedoms and rights. In this case, it is purely a professional approach on the part of the performer's team. The stage plan of the concert and telecast is formed and approved in advance. Representatives of the Melovin management did not fully disclose their plans, provided information only about the pyrotechnic show. After that, the M1 team planned in advance to include the backstage area "Atlas Weekend on M1", - says the message of the channel.
As a reminder, Melovin became famous after winning the 6th season of the X-Factor vocal show. The singer represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, taking 17th place.
