Around 10 o'clock in the morning on August 4, an unknown man entered the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, pulled an object similar to an explosive device out of his pocket and threatened to detonate it. This was reported in the communication department of the Kyiv police.
Law enforcement officers launched a special police operation, conducted negotiations with the man, and then detained him.
As the head of the National Police, Igor Klymenko, said: "The situation is unusual, this was a member of the ATO, who went through the crucible of hostilities, who was wounded twice, had a brain injury. And he committed this crime, probably because he had difficult life events. Thanks to a friend, a volunteer, who negotiated with him, we were able to get out of the situation."
The head of the department added that upon the fact of the events, criminal proceedings will be opened under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
"One of them is heavy - article 147 - taking hostages. A man may face up to 15 years in prison. A very serious matter. But no one has the right in this country to break the law, take hostages, threaten with weapons or ammunition. He had a grenade in his hands that could cause harm. The investigation will establish the motive," he said.
