Iran responded to calls to investigate the supply of drones to Russia

Russia has said that the UN investigation would be a violation of the organization's charter

Iran has threatened France, Germany and Britain with retaliatory action for their call for the UN to investigate the supply of kamikaze drones to Russia. This statement was made by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Nasser Kanaani, quoted by Reuters:

"The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, seeking to protect its national interests and protect the rights of the noble Iranian people, reserves the right to respond to any irresponsible actions."

Without elaborating, he added that Iran will not hesitate to defend the interests of its people.

In addition, the president of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, sharply responded to the accusations. According to him, today Iran is a "popular arms exporter".

Raisi also added that during his recent trips abroad, including to New York for the UN General Assembly, "people came up asking me to sell them military products."

Earlier, Great Britain, France and Germany called on the UN to conduct an investigation in connection with Russia's accusations of using Iranian kamikaze drones to strike Ukraine, which may be a violation of a UN Security Council resolution.

In turn, the Russian Federation called this a violation of the UN Charter. Russia's mission to the UN said that such an investigation could only be launched at the request of the Security Council, adding that the Security Council had never given the UN Secretariat a mandate to conduct any investigation in the context of resolution 2231.

Vasyl Nebenzya, the representative of the Russian Federation at the UN, said that if UN experts begin an investigation into the supply of Iranian drones to Russia, then Moscow can "review the entire complex of its relations with the UN Secretariat."
