British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation

Only after 45 days in office

Six weeks later (from September 6), after the appointment, British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned. This is the shortest tenure of a British prime minister in history.

The Prime Minister explained that due to "great economic and international instability", in particular due to Russia's war against Ukraine, she could not cope with the tasks assigned to her.

According to Truss, she has discussed her resignation with King Charles and will remain in office until a successor is chosen.

"I took office during a period of great economic and international instability. Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills," Liz Truss said in announcing her resignation.

"Putin's illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our entire continent. And our country was held back by low economic growth for too long. I was elected by the Conservative Party with a mandate to change that. We have come up with proposals on electricity bills and reduced national insurance payments. We laid it out." its vision of a high-growth, low-tax economy that will take advantage of the benefits and freedoms brought about by Brexit," Truss said.

"We set out a vision of an economy with low taxes and high growth rates. However, I recognize that, given the situation, I cannot fulfill the mandate to which I was elected by the Conservative Party. That is why I have spoken to His Majesty the King to announce that I am stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party."

The Prime Minister faced new challenges – British government officials began to resign en masse.

It was previously reported that on Wednesday evening, October 19, Wendy Morton, the main parliamentary organizer of the majority in the House of Commons, resigned.

Elections for the new leader of the conservative party and the prime minister will be held next week.
