NATO is sending troops to Eastern Europe to contain Russia

The North Atlantic Alliance is sending additional military forces, including ships and fighters, to NATO's eastern flank to strengthen deterrence and protect allies in connection with the actions of the Russian Federation around Ukraine.

"Denmark is sending a frigate to the Baltic Sea and will send four F-16 fighters to Lithuania to support NATO's long-term air surveillance mission. Spain sends ships to the naval forces and considers the option of sending military personnel to Bulgaria.

France will send troops to Romania under the command of NATO. The Netherlands sends two F-35 fighters to Bulgaria. The United States also reported that it is considering options for increasing the military presence on the eastern flank of the Alliance," NATO said in a statement.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted that the Alliance will take all necessary measures to protect all allies, including by strengthening the eastern flank.

"We will always react to any deterioration in the security situation, including by strengthening collective defense," Jens Stoltenberg noted.

In turn, the United States is considering the possibility of sending from 1000 to 5000 military personnel, as well as aircraft and warships, to NATO's eastern flank. The decision should be taken soon.
