Zelensky introduced sanctions against the top 10 smugglers of Ukraine

And 79 companies

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council dated April 2, 2021 "On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)". This was reported in the press service of the head of state.

With this decision, the National Security Council supported the proposals submitted by the Security Service of Ukraine to apply personal special economic and other sanctions for a period of three years to ten individuals.

The Head of State, talking about the decision of the National Security Council in his video message, noted that for the first time in the history of Ukraine, personal sanctions are being introduced, in particular, the assets and property of persons who, according to analytical data of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Security Council Office, can be called the top ten Ukrainian smugglers.

"The fight against smuggling will be continued, this is the first ten, but certainly not the last," Zelensky emphasized.

And he added that, according to experts' calculations, the losses due to smuggling reach 300 billion hryvnias, which the state budget did not receive.

Also, according to the decision of the National Security Council, sanctions are applied to 79 companies.

The Cabinet of Ministers together with the SBU and the National Bank of Ukraine must ensure the implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of the specified restrictive measures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine should inform the competent authorities of the European Union, the United States, and other states about the application of sanctions and put before them the question of introducing similar restrictive measures.

According to the document published on the president's website, the top ten smugglers who will be subject to sanctions include:

  • Alexander Erymichuk (Chernivtsi)
  • Alexander Kravchenko (Odessa)
  • Yury Kushnir (Chernovytsia Region)
  • Valery Peresolyak (Transcarpathian region)
  • Orest Firmaniuk (Transcarpathian region)
  • Alexander Chudakov (Odessa)
  • Victor Sherman (Odessa)
