Ukraine and Slovakia have signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement that will allow Uzhhorod airport to resume operations. This was reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The conclusion of this agreement will make it possible to restore the full functioning of the airport and connect the Zakarpattia region by air with other regions of Ukraine, as well as with foreign ones.
"Due to the geographical and other features of the airport "Uzhgorod", which is located practically on the border with Slovakia, the departure and arrival of aircraft at the airfield is impossible without using the territory of this state. The term of the previous intergovernmental agreement, which regulated this issue, has expired, and we worked hard together with the Slovak side on the renewal of agreements for the full launch of the airport", commented the signing of the agreement, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Vladyslav Krykly.
According to him, the signing of this agreement will also contribute to the strengthening of mutual bilateral relations in the field of civil aviation between Ukraine and Slovakia and in terms of expanding the possibilities of international air transportation. Kryklyi also expressed hope for the quick completion of coordination of technical issues related to the implementation of the agreement and the signing of implementation protocols by the parties within a month.
The agreement was initialed by both countries during negotiations in Kyiv on December 18. The document takes into account security and defense issues arising from Slovakia's membership in NATO, as well as from the fact that the common Ukrainian-Slovak border is also the external border of the Alliance.
The agreement is concluded for an indefinite period and enters into force from the date of receipt through diplomatic channels of the last written notification of the completion of the internal state procedures necessary for its entry into force by the contracting parties.
