Parliament supported toughening of criminal liability for "telephone miners"

People's deputies adopted as a basis the draft law on increasing responsibility for knowingly false information about a threat to the safety of citizens

People's deputies adopted as a basis the draft law on increasing responsibility for knowingly false information about a threat to the safety of citizens. The corresponding decision was supported by 235 parliamentarians.

"In Ukraine, there is a very big problem with the fact that some citizens allow themselves to call and report to the internal affairs authorities about fake landmines. Applications are being made over the phone about the mining of train stations, subway stations, airports... We suggest that if someone calls and mines a train station or subway or another object of critical infrastructure, then for this there should be from 4 to 8 years of imprisonment," said the deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko.

Draft Law No. 3911 establishes enhanced criminal liability for knowingly false information about a threat to the safety of citizens. In particular, if the objects of a knowingly false report were critically important infrastructure objects or objects or structures that support the activities of state authorities or health care and education institutions, such actions will be punished by imprisonment for a period of 4 to 8 years with or without confiscation of property.
