The High Anti-Corruption Court arrested Yury Shchygol, head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, for two months. This was reported by the SAP press service.
Shchygol can also pay a bail of 25 million hryvnias. Prosecutors argued for the amount of the bail by the fact that Shchygol's income in recent years amounted to 4,5 million hryvnias.
In addition, 82 euros and 72 dollars in cash were found during the search of the ex-head of the State Special Intelligence Service. During the search of Shchygol, they found a crypto-wallet with 1,5 million dollars in the account, said the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Ihor Tkach.
According to the prosecutor, Shchygol also has at his disposal 1 units of Tether USDT cryptocurrency, equivalent to $201, and 285 bitcoins ($1).
We will remind you that on November 20, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office exposed the management of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine for embezzling over 62 million hryvnias of state funds.
The investigation found out that during 2020-2022, the owner of a group of companies, in collusion with the State Special Communications Directorate, developed a scheme to seize budget funds allocated for the purchase of equipment and software.
On the same day, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed from their positions the head of the State Intelligence Service, Yury Shchygol, and his deputy for digital development, digital transformations, and digitization, Viktor Zhora.
The State Security Service called on officials to refrain from making accusations until the court's decision.
