Some Ukrainians admitted that they feel ashamed of their compatriots who are hiding from mobilization during a full-scale war. At the same time, some believe that dodgers can be understood, because "no one wants to die."
This is evidenced by the survey data conducted by the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Sciences together with the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine on March 1-15, 2024. Their presented at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
Sociologists noted that the public attitude towards mobilization is currently extremely contradictory. On the one hand, more than half of the respondents (53,9%) agree with the statement "those who avoid mobilization can be understood - no one wants to die." Only 17,2% disagree, and another 29% do not have a clear answer. Residents of the southern regions are ready to show the greatest loyalty in this matter, among whom more than 70% believe that those willing to avoid mobilization can be understood.
At the same time, experts noted that about 43% of respondents "feel ashamed of men who are hiding from mobilization." Among the residents of the southern regions, almost 50% of them are.
"Contradictory attitude to mobilization, which can be manifested both at the level of public consciousness and in the consciousness of individual citizens, is a significant challenge for the military and political leadership of the state and will require the use of psychologically based measures to effectively ensure mobilization." experts concluded.
The survey was conducted by the method of face-to-face interviews and included 2000 respondents aged 18 and over who live in the territory controlled by Ukraine. The sample represents the adult population of Ukraine, the margin of error is 3,2%.
