Checklist in the event of an accident at the ZNPP: what you need to have with you in case of a nuclear threat, explains the Ministry of Health

Law enforcement officers and rescue workers are preparing to eliminate the consequences in case the Russian invaders stage a terrorist attack at the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. Headquarters have already been deployed in Ukraine - Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

"We are closely monitoring the radiation background. The equipment is ready, specialists are ready for various scenarios of the development of events," said Klymenko.

According to him, today the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched the work of the relevant headquarters. Energy workers, emergency services workers, police and medics will be present there. Klymenko noted that it is important to convey to citizens the rules of behavior in the event of an emergency.

"First of all, people need to keep calm. It is based on the readiness of all our services: the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and local authorities for any emergency events and situations, including those related to a possible radiation leak from the ZNPP," he said.

The minister emphasized that in the event of a terrorist attack, the most important will be the first day, when the radiation background will be the highest.

"As for the Zaporizhzhia NPP. That radioactive background, which may be in the air after any activities, will remain for about 1 day. That is, we will reduce the radioactive background by 80% during the day," he emphasized.

Klymenko noted that all citizens who want to leave the affected area will be provided with appropriate transport.

"In the coming days, we will conduct appropriate exercises with the blocking of roads and the appropriate deployment of sanitary checkpoints where we will check for radiation. All radiation measurement equipment we have is calibrated and ready to go. But we want to group all the services again. So that we can clearly respond to any challenges," said the minister.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also reminded the basic safety rules for citizens in the event of an emergency:

- do not go outside;
— close the windows in the room and block the ventilation;
— follow the official messages of the State Emergency Service, the police and local authorities.
