The Ministry of Agriculture of Romania and representatives of large agricultural organizations have reached an agreement on a number of demands of farmers who are protesting and blocking the border with Ukraine. It is reported Euractiv.
Agriculture Minister Florin Barbou said the agreement covers 13 demands of farmers. Discussions will continue to find a compromise on outstanding requests.
The government has committed to fully subsidize all agricultural excise duties by 2026 and to immediately adopt rules for subsidized loans.
The agreement, signed after more than three hours of negotiations, does not mean an immediate end to the protest, as future negotiations with transporters, which will last until Thursday, could affect their duration, said Marius Miku, one of the farmers' representatives at the talks.
Miku added that it is important for the government to provide a derogation from the mandatory crop rotation rules and set a threshold of 31% of steam land in each farm by January 4.
In addition, the government approved requests for compensation for damages caused by imports from Ukraine. The measures include clear labeling of grain and other goods, as well as electronic monitoring of seals using GPS in the port of Constanta.
Barbu denies that Romania demands the introduction of taxes on grain imports from Ukraine.
