US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that a Ukrainian counteroffensive is being prepared in the coming weeks, and success on the battlefield could bring negotiations that could build a just peace closer.
He stated this in interview Fox News.
Blinken noted that Russia has already been defeated in Ukraine in the sense that it failed to achieve its original goal: to erase Ukraine from the map, to include it in Russia, to eliminate its existence as an independent state.
This was the diplomat's answer to the journalist's question about the impasse that, in his opinion, the situation on the battlefield had reached.
He noted that the Ukrainians plan to carry out a counteroffensive in the coming weeks, the success of which depends on the possibility of conducting negotiations with Russia, which may end in a "just peace."
"We know that the Ukrainians are planning a counteroffensive in the coming weeks. Let's see what will come of it. After all, success on the battlefield is the best and, perhaps, the fastest way to negotiations that will lead to a just and lasting peace," the US Secretary of State noted.
