Three candidates are participating in the presidential elections in Turkey

On Sunday, May 14, voting in the presidential and parliamentary elections began in Turkey

Polling stations for the presidential and parliamentary elections opened on Sunday in 81 provinces of Turkey. Polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. local time. Voting will last until 17.00.

In total, 191 ballot boxes have been installed in the country and abroad. After the end of the voting, the votes cast for the presidential candidates will be counted first. 884 million Turkish citizens have the right to vote.

It is noted that security measures have been increased in Ankara and Istanbul.

Security measures have been increased at the polling station in Istanbul, where the current president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will vote today. His main competitor for the post of head of state is the leader of the Turkish opposition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

Three candidates are participating in the presidential elections in Turkey - incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu and candidate from the ATA Alliance Sinan Ogan. The main struggle for the highest state post is expected to unfold between Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu. To win, it is necessary to get more than 50% of the votes, local political scientists do not rule out holding presidential elections in Turkey in two rounds. The second round will take place on May 28. The candidate who received a simple majority of votes will be declared the winner.

Parliamentary elections are held together with the presidential elections. 36 parties participate in them, some of which joined alliances to increase the chances of getting more seats in the parliament.

The tension in the elections is so high not only because there is a fierce struggle between Erdogan's 20-year leadership and the opposition, which has felt the power. On October 29, the Republic of Turkey will turn 100 years old. This is a very important date for the current government, which has planned many of its projects and plans specifically for this event.
