Federal intelligence services warn of possible Islamist terror in Germany

According to the head of the special service of the Federal Republic of Germany, in connection with the terrorist attacks in Europe in recent weeks, it is necessary to carefully monitor "already known dangerous elements"

Law enforcement officers in Germany now have to be "extremely vigilant" against the threat from Islamist extremists.

This was stated by the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the German Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, in an interview with the ARD channel, reports DW.

According to the head of the special service of the Federal Republic of Germany, in connection with the terrorist attacks in Europe in recent weeks, it is necessary to carefully monitor "already known dangerous elements".

"Among them there is probably someone who thought about committing similar crimes," Haldenwang believes.

At the same time, the head of the special service emphasized that the level of danger, according to the department, has not changed.

"In the past, I always said that the danger level of Islamist terror is consistently high," Haldenwang said.

According to him, an Islamist terrorist attack can happen at any time and in Germany, the agency reports.

The head of the special service considers the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in France to be the main reason for the terrorist attacks in recent weeks, which "made the emotions of Islamists boil." The special services take into account the fact that these events are actively discussed in certain circles in Germany, showing solidarity, Haldenwang emphasized.

According to the agency, a demonstration against caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad and the Parisian satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was banned the day before in Frankfurt am Main. The refusal of the city authorities was justified by the fact that the demonstration of 200 participants threatens public order and safety.

"After the incredibly cruel terrorist attacks in France and Austria, Europe mourns together with the victims' relatives. Right now, a demonstration against Charlie Hebdo in our liberal and open city is unacceptable," said Markus Frank, a member of the city council.
