President Zelensky spoke at the Munich conference: main statements

Main statements

On February 17, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi stands out at the Munich Security Conference. During it, he stated that the Russian-Ukrainian war poses a threat to everyone in Europe.

According to him, this is a Russian war against all rules in general.

"How long will the world allow Russia to be like this. This is the main question today. The longer this Russian aggression against the world order continues, the greater will be the changes it provokes." Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.

According to him, people will probably have to live in a world where local wars will no longer be local, while any outbreak of war will carry the risks of turning into a global catastrophe. Whereas food and migration can be turned into weapons.

"If we don't act now, Putin can make the next few years disastrous, and for other nations as well," — Zelensky emphasized.

Zelenskyi on the peace formula

"Putin must be deprived of any ability to manipulate anyone in the world, to limit the activities of others. The world has a document that defines the basic principles of coexistence of nations — the UN Charter. Russia ignores him. Ukraine proposed a peace formula based on the principles and norms of the UN Charter," said the President of Ukraine.

He added that the first peace summit based on the Ukrainian peace formula will be held in Switzerland.

Zelensky about Putin

The President of Ukraine stated that Putin has only two possible ends - "the tribunal in The Hague or to be killed by one of those who are now killing for him."

He also noted that 2024 is critically important, and "if we don't act now, Putin can make the next years catastrophic for the world community."

Zelensky about Avdiivka

In his speech, Zelensky mentioned Avdiivka, from which the Ukrainian military left tonight. He emphasized that this happened due to insufficient support of Ukraine from international partners.

The President noted that Ukraine is capable of winning, but it does not depend only on Ukraine, and the situation in Avdiivka confirms this.

"Unfortunately, keeping Ukraine in an artificial shortage of weapons, in particular in the shortage of artillery and long-range weapons, allows Putin to adapt to the intensity of hostilities. This weakening of democracy undermines our collective capacity."

Later, answering questions, Zelenskyy explained that the decision to withdraw from Avdiyivka was correct, professional and fair, and was also aimed at preserving personnel.

"This is the most important task for us. We protect our people, our soldiers - because this is protection. Weapons from our partners help restore peace in our territory, but above all, the military protects people. Therefore, in order not to be surrounded, a decision was made to move to other frontiers," — he said.

Zelensky about Trump — I am ready to go with him to the front

"We want all candidates to know what is really happening in the war. If Trump comes, I am ready to go to the front with him. If we are going to have a conversation about how to end war, we need to show the decision makers what real war looks like. Not an Instagram war, but a real war«.

Zelensky about refugees

The President thanked all the countries that accepted Ukrainian refugees and support them.

"And if there are enough air defense systems in Ukraine, we will be able to bring home millions of Ukrainians, millions of our people, our refugees."

"Don't ask Ukraine when the war will end — ask yourself why Putin can still continue it." — this is the thesis of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who ended his speech at the Munich Security Conference.

Fair mobilization

Commenting on the issue of mobilization, Zelensky emphasized that it should be fair. And "justice" consists in the fact that military personnel who go on rotation should be replaced by professional and trained soldiers.

"The question of fair mobilization is a question of rotation. You are tired, you must recover. You go out to recover, and another person comes in your place, a professional who has undergone appropriate training. And mobilization depends on this," — the president said.

Zelensky added that one number of people is needed for the protection and defense of the country, and another for a counteroffensive. "So the issue of mobilization is a complex matter," he explained.

Ukraine will surprise Russia with drones

Zelenskyy spoke about the development of the domestic production of drones and electronic warfare systems. According to him, Ukraine has something to surprise Russia on the battlefield this year.

"We started developing the production of drones. In a positive for us and a negative for the Russian Federation, we will surprise them this year with drone systems and EW systems. These are our domestic technologies." - he said.

But the president added that "this is a parallel path while we wait for help from partners."

Ukraine's entry into NATO

Zelenskyi also commented on the situation with Ukraine's accession to NATO. He thanked the alliance for the important decisions adopted at the Vilnius summit last year, which gave impetus to the Euro-Atlantic integration.

However, the Ukrainian president refused to comment on the terms of Ukraine's accession to NATO, noting that this issue should be addressed to the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg.
