Poland began to extradite men who fled abroad to Ukraine

Extradition is possible only by a court decision

Poland began to extradite to Ukraine men of conscription age who illegally left the country after February 24, 2022. Extradition is possible only by a court decision. He writes about it Republic.

According to the data of the border service of Poland, 80 thousand Ukrainian men of conscription age entered Poland after February 24, 2022 and disappeared. In order to return them to the country, Ukraine must issue an international arrest warrant for each of them.

"One person could cross the border even several hundred times. But after deducting the departures from the arrivals, about 80 remain in Poland. These Ukrainians are potentially subject to mobilization in the country. How many of them actually qualified for exemption [from service]? It is unknown," said the spokeswoman of the headquarters of the Border Service, Lieutenant Anna Mikhalska.

The spokesman of the Main Directorate of the Police, Mariusz Tsiarka, explained that the extradition of the evaders is possible under the conditions that Ukraine submits a corresponding request, and the Polish court makes a corresponding decision.

"If we detain such a foreigner, for example, for a simple check on the road, our KSIP system will show that he is a person pursued by the Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, because there is Interpol data there. We detain such a person and inform the prosecutor's office. The Polish court decides whether she will be extradited," Tsiarka explains.

It is noted that some of these people got to Poland through the "green corridor". Others may have entered the country illegally through intermediaries. According to information Rzeczpospolita received from the Border Service, Poland has already expelled Ukrainian citizens who smuggled people to Europe illegally.

David Arahamiya, leader of the Servant of the People faction, recently said that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies will demand the extradition of men of draft age who illegally left Ukraine to avoid mobilization.
