Poland wants to return money paid to refugees from Ukraine with children

Who will it affect?

Poland wants to return $450 in aid unjustifiably paid to Ukrainian refugees. This was announced by the Social Security Service of the country, Rzecz Pospolita reports.

According to the statement, the amount paid in violation of the aid is 2 million zlotys (about 450 thousand dollars), of which about 35 thousand zlotys have been returned to date. We are talking about "500+" and "300+" benefits, which are paid in Poland for each child.

According to Polish law, a Ukrainian refugee loses access to these benefits if he leaves Poland for more than 30 days. There were cases when parents and children came to Poland from Ukraine solely for the purpose of applying for assistance, after which they immediately left back.

"The social service consistently issues regular decisions on unreasonably received assistance and obliges the recipients to return it," said Pavlo Zhebrovskyi, the press secretary of the service. According to him, they have two years for this. So far, only 35,4 thousand zlotys (about $8 thousand) have been returned.

On January 28, an update to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Citizens came into effect in Poland, which allows the suspension of payments to all those who cross the Polish border. The social service also gained access to the database of the border guard. During the month, payments were stopped for 3200 citizens of Ukraine. Guides who returned within 30 days are promised a refund.
