The "Fatherland" party opposes the Istanbul Convention

Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the Istanbul Convention, which was supported by all parliamentary factions except "Motherland". On opinion the head of Yulia Tymoshenko's faction, deputies from other parties went against the will of Ukrainians, because such an important issue should be submitted to a national referendum. The leader of "Batkivshchyna" emphasized that despite the beautiful name of the convention - on the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence and the fight against these phenomena - the document primarily introduces the concept of gender and imposes values that are not characteristic of Ukrainian society.

speaking from the rostrum of the parliament, the head of the Batkivshchyna party debunked a number of myths related to this document.

"First of all, the Istanbul Convention is not included in the package of requirements that the European Union gives us in order to give us candidacy in the EU. And secondly, not all EU countries have ratified this document. In particular, our neighbors are Slovakia and Hungary. And Poland is currently in the process of denunciation of the ratified Istanbul Agreement. Among the countries that supported us a lot during the war - Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Czech Republic - did not ratify this convention, and this did not prevent them from becoming members of the EU. We cannot divide the country now, because unity during the war is important for us. You can't do things that threaten the very existence of such an institution as the family," the politician added.

After the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, the VR appeared on the website of the President of Ukraine petition with a call to denounce the Law on its ratification, initiated by Yulia Tymoshenko.

This petition has already been submitted supported The Orthodox Church of Ukraine, noting that "The Church, together with all other Churches and religious organizations, opposes efforts under the guise of combating domestic violence to introduce the ideological, worldview and medical concepts of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" into Ukrainian legislation as legal terms, in order to replace biological sex (female and male) with gender in the legislation - a complex of social, psychological and sexual concepts. Thus, contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine, it is proposed to enshrine the norms of one of the modern ideologies as mandatory legislative prescriptions, although no ideology, including gender, can be recognized by the state as mandatory."

In the Odesa region, representatives of churches and the "Fatherland" have already held meetings and discussed the issues of the Istanbul Convention, expressing a single opinion in support of Yulia Tymoshenko's petition to denounce the Law on the Ratification of this Convention.

Today, the head of the Odesa regional "Batkivshchyna" Oleg Radkovskiy and the head of the office center of the city of Odesa Mykhailo Pozhivanov met with the Bishop of Odesa and the Baltic Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Bishop Athanasius. At the meeting, they discussed the issue of supporting the petition, to collect 25 signatures as soon as possible, and the inadmissibility of splitting Ukrainian society due to the imposition of values that are not inherent to it.

"Batkivshchyna" Odeschyna, party activists and deputies of local councils of all levels actively joined in supporting the petition, because it is important for us to preserve our values and Ukraine. In addition, we discussed with Bishop Athanasius the issue of building a temple in the city of Odesa, from our side we will provide full support and maximum assistance in such an important matter," Oleg Radkovskyi said. Politicians also held a meeting with Oleksandr Dymov, head of the Prosvita Evangelical Christian Baptist Church. Father Oleksandr also expressed full support for Yulia Tymoshenko's initiative to denounce the Istanbul Convention as unacceptable for Ukrainian society.
