Valery, an electrician of the Odesa company "Infoksvodokanal", in peacetime makes sure that the pumps that supply water are in working order, and on February 24, 2022, he changed his overalls to a military uniform.
He speaks little and fragmentarily, although the description of his actions would be enough for a whole book. Since 2012, Valery has been working at Infoxvodokanal as an electrician.
In order to eliminate the consequences of a breakdown or to check the serviceability of electrical networks, it takes three hours to get to his workplace, because he lives quite far from the city. To the question about the decision to become a volunteer of the Armed Forces, he answers discreetly: "I don't know, I left and that's all".
On February 24, he was at home, he learned about the full-scale invasion from the news, and the very next day he went to the TCC - "They said to be there in the morning, food supply for three days and that's it. He passed the medical board, there are no complaints, and we left."
During the first months of the war, Valery recovered the skills acquired during his military service.
"Until May, we were in the guard company, waiting for an offensive from Transnistria, from May 2022 I was in the 35th brigade, then in December, as part of the second rifle battalion, we went to Maryanka"
Fierce battles took place in Maryanka even then. Valery was appointed commander of the unit that defended positions from enemy assaults.
"Just a year ago, when we were carrying out a wounded man, we came under fire, it was difficult. They covered us with artillery, mortars, destroyed our position. Losing people when you go to battle with them ... is very difficult"
They are especially hard to attack, for one of them Valeriy received an award.
"There is a pool near Staromayorskyi, and here we recaptured it and held it, took prisoners. And on June 22, when there was already a counteroffensive, there was an attack on us and I got hit, but together, as boys, we went out on our own."
The treatment lasted almost three months, and after rehabilitation Valery returned to the Kherson area, from where he was mobilized.
Valery defended the country for a year and eight months, the consequences of the wound no longer allowed. Of course, he was happy to hug his relatives, but, as Valery says "Some ambivalent feeling after demobilization."
At work, colleagues were waiting for him, who supported him all the time, so the question of where to work next fell away by itself.
Probably, there is not a single profession whose representatives cannot be found in the war. Thank you, our courageous locksmiths, plumbers, engineers, teachers and farmers. Thank you for your courage in the war and work in the rear.
