Ukraine is already experiencing the third wave of the global coronavirus pandemic, the second hour of which may be even more severe than the first.
This was stated by Health Minister Maksym Stepanov during question time to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.
"According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Health and our specialists, which are confirmed by the statements of the WHO, the world is quickly approaching the third wave of the coronavirus. Scientists' assessments are not comforting — the second year of the pandemic may turn out to be even more difficult than the previous one. Our scientists, together with the opinion of foreign colleagues, noticed that virus mutations, changes in the clinical course of the disease and in the dynamics of the transmission of COVID-19 will significantly increase the pressure on the medical systems of countries. In Ukraine, the number of infected people is also growing every day. We have already entered the third wave of the global pandemic," the minister said.
He confirmed the information that the "British" strain of the coronavirus was recorded in Ukraine, and also reminded that three regions were already in the "red" quarantine zone (Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi and Zhytomyr).
"The Zakarpattia and Vinnytsia regions are on the edge of the red zone," Stepanov added.
According to the minister, according to the dynamics of the development of the epidemic in Ukraine, an increase in the number of infected people is predicted until the end of the epidemic season - roughly until the end of April.
