Ukraine will receive a vaccine against the coronavirus infection produced by the AstraZeneca company. Poland will resell 1,2 million doses of the drug on a non-profit basis.
The deal was announced by Vice President of the European Commission Valdys Dombrovskis during a briefing with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in Brussels.
According to Dombrovskis, the European Commission will help deliver this vaccine to Ukraine. "The commission is helping with the organization of the contract, transportation and delivery from Poland to Ukraine through the EU's civil protection mechanism," said the vice-president of the EC.
He also added that according to the EU procurement agreement, this vaccine will be resold on a non-profit basis.
It is worth noting that the AstraZeneca vaccine was banned from being used in Poland for vaccination of people over 60 years old. Elderly people in this country will still be vaccinated with Pfizer and Moderna drugs, and the AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered, for example, to teachers or military personnel of the appropriate age. Accordingly, unnecessary doses will be resold to Ukraine.
