Regional ecologists are trying to attract funds for the restoration of the Bolshoi Kuyalnik River, since they are not provided for in the budget.
According to specialists, the river flows into the estuary and supplies it with fresh water. This is how healing mud is formed. However, due to the drought and long-standing problems, the situation is again close to critical. In 2020, the estuary lost a significant amount of water and is in danger of disappearing.
Moreover, a special pipe through which water enters the estuary in the cold season and prevents it from drying out does not fulfill its functions - someone's sewage drain, illegally cut into the canal, was discovered on the spot. Environmentalists are sounding the alarm: at such rates, the health center may indeed come to an end.
— If you come and look, you can immediately see that someone has already "crashed" into this pipe from the Odessa Bay, and the sewage flows directly into the estuary. And not a single special service or organization has anything to do with it. This measure was the only salvation, but it is also not enough. In a few years, only a salt field may remain here. This has not happened in the last 5 years - the estuary has become shallower, salinity is in extreme values. Unfortunately, for 2 years now, the implementation of activities related to monitoring the state of the health resort has not been financed, although the resort has been given a special status, - says the rector of Odessa Ecological University, member of the working group on saving Kuyalnyk Sergey Stepanenko.
It should be noted that money was previously allocated from the state budget for the creation of a project of technical and ecological substantiation. Now it is necessary to find further financing for monitoring the situation and resuming the water supply of the reservoir.
