With the acquisition of such weapons, the Ukrainian army will be able to hit previously inaccessible targets. Stanislav Mankov, a technical specialist in aviation and missile weapons, told about this at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.
He noted that Storm Shadow missiles have different modifications. It is not yet known which ones Britain handed over to Ukraine.
"This is a large cruise missile that can hit at a distance of 300 kilometers or more and hit underground objects. The enemy does not have a direct analogue of such a weapon - with such a guidance system and a warhead. This missile has a sophisticated guidance system that will allow it to hit targets in the harsh conditions of electronic warfare. This weaponry will allow the Air Force of Ukraine to hit targets it could not before - underground bunkers in Crimea or warehouses of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. Or concrete supports of any bridge," Mankov said.
He added that the Minister of Defense of Great Britain deliberately did not tell which modification Ukraine received. Storm Shadow can be launched from aircraft and ships, and the latest version can be used for use from ground launchers, said Stanislav Mankov.
The speed of the missile is 800 km/hour, the target launch range from the ship is up to 1400 km, the mass of the warhead is 300 kg.
Ukraine became the tenth operator of this weapon. In addition to Ukraine, France and Great Britain, Storm Shadow is also used by the armed forces of Greece, Egypt, Italy, India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
