Support for Ukrainian refugees in Europe will fall in 2023

State funding for refugees in Poland may decrease

The governments of some European countries may cut funding for centers for refugees from Ukraine

The UN noted that many Ukrainians prefer to stay in neighboring Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Romania. The economies of the mentioned countries have a smaller margin of safety than Western countries, and the increase in energy prices is felt more strongly there.

State funding for refugees in Poland may decrease. Ukrainians will have to pay part of the bills for housing and food. At the same time, private shelters for Ukrainians will retain the opportunity to receive assistance from the government.

It is also reported that some Latvian cities have run out of budgets for accommodating refugees, but the Latvian authorities have extended funding for aid to Ukrainians until June 2023. A similar situation is observed in Hungary and Romania.

From April 3, 2023, the Ministry of Labor The Czech Republic proposes to limit the period of free residence of displaced persons in emergency shelters.

Currently, the Czech Republic is preparing amendments to the "Lex Ukraina" law, which regulates the provision of assistance to the citizens of our country.

Many of our citizens live in dormitories, boarding houses, and some hotels.

The government of the Czech Republic plans to limit the period of free accommodation in emergency shelters (in particular, dormitories and boarding houses) to 150 days. After this period, displaced people will be asked to move or start paying for housing.

The new rule does not apply to parents with children under 4 years of age, the elderly, 65 years of age and older, and the disabled.

The government will provide additional assistance to those displaced persons who will independently rent apartments from employment centers.
