President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree that defines the conditions for military service under a contract for citizens over the age of 60.
According to document No. 108/2026, older Ukrainians will be able to sign a one-year contract with special conditions of service.
Conditions for concluding a contract for people 60+:
- Term of service: The contract with such individuals is concluded for a period of 1 year. During martial law, it can be extended for another year.
- Commander's consent: a mandatory condition is to have a letter (written consent) from the commander of the military unit where the person plans to serve.
- Health status: the candidate must be deemed fit for service by a military medical commission (MMC).
- Submission procedure: the application and the commander's consent are submitted to the CCC and the SP at the place of residence.
- Officers: for persons applying for officer positions, the consent of the unit commander must be additionally approved by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the event of the termination or cancellation of martial law, the validity of such contracts is terminated early, and the servicemen are discharged from service.
