The official's corruption scheme was exposed in August last year by investigators from the Kyiv Police Investigation Department together with operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department in the city of Kyiv. Law enforcement officers established, that in May 2024, a farmer applied to the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection to disinfect the premises and obtain the appropriate certificate necessary for the further operation of the farm. The head of the department informed him of the excessive workload and postponed the implementation of preventive measures.
However, the official later offered the applicant $3 to provide a corresponding certificate of treatment of production premises from insects and rodents without actually visiting the facility.
Investigators detained the defendant while he was receiving the second part of the "tranche" in the amount of $1000 and reported suspicion under Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving an illegal benefit by an official. For the duration of the investigation, he was suspended from his position.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The sanction of the article provides for up to four years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
