The State Bureau of Investigation is asking the court to limit the terms of familiarization with the case of the fifth President of Ukraine, currently a People's Deputy of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, who is suspected of committing high treason and aiding the activities of terrorist organizations. It is indicated that the investigators filed a petition with the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv to set a deadline for the suspects, the current and former people's deputies and a top manager in the coal sector, as well as their defense lawyers, to familiarize themselves with the materials of the pre-trial investigation.
The State Bureau of Investigation reports that it completed the investigation of criminal proceedings regarding the organization of a criminal scheme to supply coal from temporarily occupied territories and to assist the terrorist organizations "LPR" and "DPR" by a group of Ukrainian citizens for a total amount of about 1,5 billion hryvnias on September 2, 2022.
At the same time, the case materials were handed over to the defense and the suspects for review. However, the suspects, in particular, reportedly the current MP, are abusing their procedural rights and are not appearing to review the case materials.
The State Bureau of Investigation reminds that Poroshenko suspected in that he, acting in accordance with a prior conspiracy by a group of individuals, in particular from among representatives of the top leadership of the Russian Federation, facilitated the activities of the terrorist organizations "LPR" and "DPR".
The proceedings were carried out under Part 1 and Part 3 of Article 258-5 (financing of terrorism), Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason) and Part 1 of Article 258-3 (facilitating the activities of a terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanctions of the above articles provide for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 15 years with or without confiscation of property.
